Recur Outdoors, a Boston-based holding company of diverse outdoor brands, was purchased by Catch Co., a Chicago-based mystery fishing tackle subscription box firm. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Catch Co. was founded in 2012, and uses data collection and analysis to match anglers with relevant fishing gear. Subscribers also have the ability to purchase individual lures from Catch Co.’s website. With the acquisition of Recur Outdoors, Catch Co. has gained exposure to the fly fishing niche.

Catch Co. founder and CEO Ross Gordon said in comments on the acquisition, “I could not be more excited to add Postfly and the entire Recur offering to the Catch Co. ecosystem. Not only has it built an amazing brand in the growing fly fishing market, but its customer focus and company values are very much aligned with our approach.”

Catch Co.’s purchase of Recur is another milestone for the company, which is forecast to sell its eight millionth subscription box by year-end. Catch Co. also owns Karl’s Bait and Tackle, a membership-based e-commerce platform. Additionally, the company owns brands 10,000 Fish, Biospawn, Hard Hat Jigs, Heavy Metal Tungsten, and Stickies Hooks. The Chicago-based business has a social community of more than two million followers and recently built upon its digital heritage by expanding distribution of its own products into third-party retailers nationwide, including Dick’s Sporting Goods and Walmart. Earlier this year it announced a $38 million series B funding round.
